Known Caller for WooCommerce

Turn every WooCommerce customer into a live contact on your phone, tablet, or computer — automatically, via CardDAV.

Requirements

  • WordPress 5.8 or later
  • WooCommerce 5.0 or later (tested up to 10.9)
  • PHP 7.4 or later (PHP 8.1+ recommended)
  • HTTPS on your site (required for Application Passwords and CardDAV clients)
  • A WordPress user with manage_woocommerce capability (typically Shop Manager or Administrator)

Installation

  1. Install and activate Known Caller for WooCommerce from the WooCommerce Marketplace or by uploading the plugin ZIP under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
  2. Confirm WooCommerce is active. If WooCommerce is missing, the plugin will not activate.
  3. Go to WooCommerce → CardDAV Setup in your WordPress admin.

Quick setup (recommended)

The setup page can provision your device in under a minute. It creates a labeled WordPress Application Password and configures your CardDAV client automatically.

iPhone or iPad

  1. Open WooCommerce → CardDAV Setup.
  2. Enter a device name (for example, “Work iPhone”).
  3. Click Download iOS Profile.
  4. Open the downloaded .mobileconfig file on your device.
  5. Follow the prompts to install the profile.
  6. Open the Contacts app — your WooCommerce customers will begin syncing.

Android

  1. Install DAVx⁵ from the Play Store (free; paid unlock available).
  2. Open WooCommerce → CardDAV Setup.
  3. Enter a device name and click Show QR Code.
  4. Scan the QR code with DAVx⁵ to add the account.

macOS

Use the same iOS profile download on your Mac, or add the account manually in System Settings → Internet Accounts → Add Other Account → CardDAV.

Manual setup

If auto-configuration is not available, create an Application Password and enter these details in your CardDAV client:

  1. In WordPress, go to Users → Profile → Application Passwords.
  2. Create a new password with a recognizable name (for example, “Known Caller — Kate's iPhone”).
  3. Copy the generated password — WordPress shows it only once.
  4. In your CardDAV client, use:
    • Server / host: your site domain (for example, shop.example.com)
    • Path: /carddav/
    • Username: your WordPress username
    • Password: the Application Password (not your WordPress login password)

The full CardDAV URL is typically https://your-site.com/carddav/. Some clients discover automatically via /.well-known/carddav.

Settings

Go to WooCommerce → CardDAV Settings to configure:

  • Enable or disable the CardDAV server
  • HTTPS enforcement
  • Rate limiting for failed authentication attempts
  • Logging and cache duration

Use the Test Connection button on the settings page to verify the endpoint is reachable.

Security notes

  • Always use Application Passwords, never your main WordPress password.
  • Revoke Application Passwords for devices you no longer use (Users → Profile → Application Passwords).
  • Only users with manage_woocommerce can access CardDAV data.
  • The plugin is read-only in v1.0 — contacts cannot be edited or deleted from your phone.
